The Bloomsburg University men's tennis defeated Merrimack College, 5-0, on Thursday in the first round of the NCAA Division II tennis championships. The Huskies will now face Bryant University, a 5-3 winner over Adelphi in round two on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Bloomsburg University courts. The winner will advance to the NCAA championship round next week in Houston, Texas.
In the Huskies match, Bloomsburg roared through doubles play winning all three matches with ease. The team of Dan Phillips and Ryan Chow led the way posting an 8-0 win.
In singles play, the Huskies took care of business with Dan Gal (South Park, Pa./South Park) winning at number one, 6-0, 6-2, while Ryan Glubo earned a 6-0, 6-2 win.
Bloomsburg improves to 15-5 with the win.
In the Bryant-Adelphi match, Bryant led 2-1 coming out of doubles play and then earned wins at number one, two and six singles. In the six singles match, Kevin Levinson posted a tough, three-set win 6-4, 2-6, 7-5.
Bryant is now 21-3 on the season.
